If there is one thing that puts me off buying a record, it is the appearance of a pyramid on the album cover. You know that the music will consist of vamps over one or two chords. This stuff is just cliché.

That's really good, I am tempted myself! I came to the MJQ a bit late - in my early listening days (1960s,) I thought them a bit formulaic and without heft. Totally wrong, there is some wonderful stuff on all those records.
