I wasn't exactly BOWLED OVER by Mr Scotney's account in Jazz Line-Up of the relationship between jazz and sport.

We've offered it out to friends and (certain!) relatives over the years but New Year is more popular. Seems our cultured friends live in Edinburgh already...

Couldn't agree more, SA. When I had reception (driving back through the Durham Dales) I felt there were some good musical interludes, but far too much chat. Enjoyed K le G's Now's the Time choice and Rachel Cohen and her quartet though.

I was expecting Charlie's Angels to come discoing out of my speakers at any moment during that!

Rachel Cohen's quartet was really good. I caught this whilst waiting to get out of the car part at Shoreham Airfield following this afternoon's tragic accident.

Because they are not very good?

Better than my typing, undoubtedly - but they (Beamish and Maxwell Davies) have adopted Scotland as their homeland whereas I've done the opposite, sort of (i.e. being a Scot but moving down to and "settling" in England); that said, I don't think that geographical location of composers is any indicator of how good they might be...
