Am I alone in detecting marked improvements on the fare on offer on 'Round Midnight over the past fortnight? Normally previously I had had this on quietly as innocuous background leading up to bedtime - recently however there have been items that irresistably drew my attention, such as the Patrice Rushden track on when I tuned in somewhat late tonight and thought "unmistakable Chick Corea - must check this out"! I was fooled by Joe Henderson's tenor's unmistakable presence and the rest of the group had that same energy Chick's had around the turn of the 1970s. Some of the tracks might barely pass for jazz even in my generous terms of reference, but even these are proving of interest in most cases.
