Benny was a lovely person, great conversationalist (sometimes rather too much on stage) but always interesting. You can still catch our Jazz Library chat online. We were last in touch when he was a guest on Jazz Now in 2019. Strong recommendation for Meshell Ndegeocello talking about herself and James Baldwin on tonight's better-than-usual 'Round Midnight. I often wonder how anybody with "alternative politics" manages to continue with living in the US. I suppose the answer is that they've had a long time to adjust psychologically, if not politically, obviously.
