The Alour of a Fass Cully

No JRR this weekend - AGAIN!!!

Am I correct in thinking back in the good old days that displaced programmes were moved to another time slot and well announced amid a flurry of apologies, or am I suffering from False Memory Syndrome?

    As for the rest:

    Mon 9 - 13 Sept

The Space Talk singer and illustrious Indian artist shares music dear to her this week

Over on Radio 4 (again - perhaps someone should start a Friends of Radio 4!) on Friday 13 Sept:

    7.15pm: Add to Playlist - 5/7
Jeffrey Boakye and Anna Phoebe are joined by saxophonist Emma Rawicz and pianist Julian Joseph to explore connections in African-American music. And there's an additional contribution from the musician Rhiannon Giddens, who explains the links between the banjo and transatlantic slavery.

Ah well it's LNOTP next week - perhaps there will be less schedule disruption after all the flag waving and bombast is over!

By my reckoning JRR has been cancelled three times during this year’s Proms.
Looking at the schedules for last year, JRR sailed through the Proms unscathed.
Is there a Radio 3 programme scheduler with a pathological hatred of JRR?
I think we should be told.

Perhaps more "regional" proms at weekends this year?

I recall the times the opera from the Met displaced JRR on Saturday afternoons especially in the gap between clock-adjustments for DST in March, then of course who could forget the weekend R3 devoted to the complete works of Mr J.S. Bach of Leipzig which bumped JRR off too. And many more. Torrents of hate.

Not only do I not understand the thread's title, but...

              What's JRR please?

              Someone?

                JRR - Jazz Record Requests

Alyn Shipton presents jazz records of all styles as requested by you.

As to the thread titles - these are usually puns based on the content of the jazz programmes for the week. For full enlightenment you will need to wait for Serial_Apologist (the host for the Jazz Board) to come along

Jazz Record Requests, Mario - a programme normally on on Sunday afternoons but always taking second place to anything other than jazz when the need arises. Hence the above diatribes.

As for thread titles, I make them up based on names mentioned in Radio Times and bizarre associations of my own, as did my illustrious and much-missed forbear Calum da Jazzbo, a much-respected contributor to the forum, who, sadly, passed away a few years ago.

Ah - I now see Old Grumpy was one step ahead of me!

I might just venture out before sups; actually London has been in a big gap surrounded by thunderstorms all day following last night's stupendous show by Mother Nature: a good day for observing dramatic storm clouds from a safe distance.

Some good stuff on tonight's Round Midnight - last night's too, by the way. Things looking up? I would especially commend the Ivo Neame solo piano number just played (track 4 in the sequence) as a promising line for a post-Chick Corea/John Taylor legacy that avoids looking back. Ivo has always been ahead in the game in the 15 or so years I've been following him, in both performance and distinctive compositional originality.

I was listening, but wasn't hearing...

...woke up at 0015h to find I'd missed most of the programme. Will need to "catch-up"

I have seen Sophie Alour both with Rhoda Scott and her own Caged group which was more contemporary at various occasions in Vienne. Nice to see her name come up in this thread.
