I have had so much on my plate the last month that I had forgotten to listen to 'Round Midnight . I looked at rhe playing and about 75% seems unfamiliar. It is a very different perspective of the kind of jazz I am familiar with. Alot of the names are unfamiliar from some of the other websites I visit.

I agree - we seem to have entered a period in which surface effects are deflecting away from deeper innovation and vigour. I quite enjoyed the Camilla George number from a Finnish festival just now - there's good feelings but nothing new about her improvising, and frankly God is not going to deliver jazz salvation let alone salivation; nevertheless her rapper was interesting in the way he raps behind the beat like a hip hop version of Billie Holiday! He's a good scatter too, for those who like that. The tune played by the guitar/bass duo nicked a lot from a well-known Monk tune I can't remember the title of right now .
