I bought this when it came out (2006). Can't say I've listened to it recently - but I remember thinking it was pretty good.
Maybe I had a similar reaction to this reviewer:

The Nigel Kennedy I was thinking of was the Nigel giving a fair imitation of Jimmi Hendrix on his electric violin. But I agree that the album Blue Note Sessions has Nigel playing mainstream/ bop with some big Jazz names. I gather his current "artistic activity combines the worlds of classical, jazz, rock and popular music".
Anyhow rerturning to the subject of Theo May and his Odd Unit, featured on 'Round Midnight on Wednesday, Soweto gave us an analysis of the track "The Joy of Nine". Viewing Theo's Website::https://www.theomaymusic.co.uk/ , his music is a "rich weave of the Jazz, Folk and Classical music".
All fair enough. As far as I am concerned the violin, played in the natural way in which it is intended, is making a welcome return to the world of Jazz

I really like Stuff Smith. The album he made wit Dizzy Gillespie is good but I seem to recall hearing a version of "Take the A train" on JRR many years ago where he blew the lid off the music, He never seemed confined by decorum. Incidentally, there are recordings of him made around 1932 with Alphonso Trent's band which also included the over looked trumpter Peanuts Holland and later featured Charlie Christian.
