These repeats used to occur around late summer if my memory serves me correctly, but whichever time of the year one would think from visiting All About Jazz and Jazz in London there to be enough jazz on the perpetual go to more than make up for the miserly 3 programmes per week we are expected to be thankful for. Or two, from the pedant's perspective.

Don't the repeats ramp up towards the end of the fiscal year - when the available funds begin to run out?

Maybe Jumunki Fashila was still doing panto and not available to record a programme?

Tonight's Freeness contains some interesting stuff - Corey is becoming much more helpful in his chosen track pre-assessments. I would even recommend a listen, for a change!

The Brazilian edition of J-Z was a mixed bag. I caught a chunk of the programme after the football and felt that the most interesting track was the Milton Nascimento. The other stuff was a bit ordinary. In my opinion Nascimento is a great song writer and the likes of Wayne Shorter and the Belmondo Brother's orchestra have proved just how much legs this music has as a veivle for jazz. HOwever, I sometimes feel that whenever a jazz musician delves into Brazilian music it is often far weaker than the stuff they might play in a more straight ahead context. I do not mind the music and think that the influence of Brazil has produced some great albums . I do feel feel a wave of despair when I hear some artists decide to do an album of , say, Jobum covers and you know that it will often be little more the pleasant.

I really liked the Lucian Souza track too as she is a singer I find who does get the jazz / Brazil balance right. The big band track was decent but her latest album features Trio Corrente who I have heard perform live and offer a very different perspective of what Brazilian jazz is like. (Think of Jason Moran's Bandwagon.) I like this anarchic approach to Brazilian jazz as opposed to the smoother, Bossa stuff . Souza always strikes me as Brazil's asnwer to Norma Winstone. As a teenager, I loved Tania Maria - another musician from Brazil whose music could be more robust.
I just felt that last night's programme was more influenced by BPM as opposed to a more jazz-orientated approach but this is a really common pitfall to plunge in to. I would be curious to hear he more direct jazz orientated stuff. I might have missed it but Sao Paolo underground would be a good starting point ??

Could be a necessity too with the cold weather expected this week!

What on earth was the final instrument soloing in the last of the amazing Max Roach tribute tracks on today's JRR? Some kind of tunable percussion, evidently. I nearly fell of my chair listening!

but I see there is a whole industry: https://playthesaw.co.uk/wp/musical-saws-to-play/

TBH I had heard of musical saw, but have not heard one - I shall be listening with interest when I get there!

No, non secateurs are applied by hedge fund managers, not percussion ensembles.
