Previously run at the Red Rose in Finsbury Park under the auspices of the late John Russell, this annual shindig of improv and free jazz now takes place at the Vortex. Among the provisional billed roster of 40 "et al" (!) names familiar to those whose musical proclivities are orientated to this end of the spectrum include Alan Wilkinson, Steve Beresford, Chris Hill, Roger Turner, Geoff Eales, Maggie Nicols and Phil Minton. At the self-inflicted low entry price of £12 (£5 for concessions) you get your bucks' worth of sounds of surprise and improvised soup. It starts at the very civilised hour of 12 noon and ends at 5pm, and if the Overground is operational (and it is a BIG if) I might just toddle along.
