    Elmo Hope

Just seen this, previously unissued Hope with the Philly Joe Jones band recorded at Birdland in Jan and Feb 1962 3 sessions with the likes of John Gilmore, Sonny Red, Roland Alexander, Dizzy Reece and Bill Hardman...amazing.
Its called Philly Joe Jones live at Birdland and issued on the Fresh Sound label

This is a previous incarnation on "Karma", a one off bootleg? From 1962 at Birdland. It sounds a fine band and if they've cleaned the sound up for the Fresh Sound release, well worth looking out for.

Just seen your reply - been on a walking break on Anglesey all week.

Thanks for that excerpt, I think my copy of the album is due about the 21st , I will update when I have heard it . As you say even with crap sound it sounds like a fine band and Elmo's brief solo is very good, looking forward to this even more now.

Just played the first 3 tracks from this album, sound is better than the Karma bootleg above. The band on the first 3 tracks are Dizzy Reece, Sonny Red, John Gilmore, Elmo Hope, Larry Ridley and Philly Joe. All play extremely well especially Elmo and John Gilmore and Philly Joe. Archive release of the year on the basis of these first tracks one of which has just turned up on youtube.

"I can't get started" wrongly labelled "I remember Clifford"
