    NO Moore improvisation!

    Sat 2 Sept
    5pm - J to Z

With Kevin Le Gendre, including highlights of last month's We Out Here festival concert given by Sun Ra Arkestra, founded by Alabama-born Afrofruturist pioneer Sun Ra (1914-93) in the 1950s. Plus an interview with two longtime members: saxophonist and conductor Knoel Scott and trumpeter Michael Ray. And Brooklyn-born vocalist and flautist Melanie Charles shares some of the music that inspires her.

The Sun Ra Arkestra live at We Out Here festival, plus Melanie Charles’s inspirations.

    12midnight - Freeness
Corey Mwamba with music to mark the fading of summer. Alto-saxophone player Seymour Wright [not sure why the hyphen] celebrates the rituals of improvisation with a live recording exploring the variety of sounds generated by the inside of the instrument and the breath passing through it. Plus a track from the forthcoming album by flautist and vocalist Elaine Mitchener and an improvisation by NO Moore from their latest album.

Corey Mwamba presents new improvised music and free jazz to mark the fading of summer.

    Sun 3 Sept
    10pm - Jazz Record Requests
Alyn Shipton with a broad spectrum of jazz requests, tonight featuring a night-themed playlist including Miles Davis, Billie Holiday and Dexter Gordon.

Note this week's reflected shift to the late hours.

Alyn Shipton presents your favourite jazz recordings for late-night listening

"Plus improvisation on synthesiser and guitar by N. O. Moore from their latest album Solar Providence."

"Their"? When did Nathan become plural? Good to see him featured, however. A very fine improvising musician.

It is just possible the Radio Times writer might have been adhering to gender uncertainty guidelines, not knowing of Nathan, who, I agree, is a very fine musician, having seen him at the Oto, alongside Eddie Prévost, I think.

Yes, Nathan has been a long-term stalwart of Eddie's Improvisation Workshop which meets most Fridays in the basement of the Borough Welsh Chapel in Southwark.
