    The ode that bodes.

    Sat 26 Aug
    5pm - J to Z

A special edition first broadcast last October for Black History Month, with presenter Kevin Le Gendre joined by flautist and composer Nicole Mitchell to explore jazz, Afrofuturism and beyond.

Exploring jazz, Afrofuturism and beyond with Nicole Mitchell, Theo Croker, William Parker.

Repeats - why?? There must be homegrown jazz musicians of the original Loose Tubes/Jazz Warriors/F-Ire and Loop Collective generations clamouring for a broadcast, especially in the wake of the pandemic - or were they all rendered extinct? Broadcasters continue their age-old policy of youth is best when this rarely applies when it comes to jazz. The Keith Tippett/Pete Hurt generation publicly suffered reputationally from this in the 1980s and 90s; now neglect befalls the next middle generation.

    12midnight - Freeness
Corey Mwamba presents new music, including Darius Jones joined by drummer Gerald Cleaver, violinists Jesse and Josh Zubot, cellist Peggy Lee [!] and bassist James Mege for experimentations inspired by the Fluxus art movement. Plus music by Tobi Adebajo - a work of "unbodies" - and violinists Sana Nagano and Leonor Falcón with an ebullient ode to Bartok.

Who are these people presented as in a vacuum? Come on, Corey, give us backgrounds, views, histories, experiences.

    Sun 27 Aug
    4pm - Jazz Record Requests

Alyn Shipton with a broad spectrum of requests, including recordings by Stan Getz and Romarna Campbell and Grieg as arranged by Melba Liston.

Apologies, I just had some stuff to get off my chest.

As a keen cyclist, I expect you will have some wax around somewhere

I've tried listening to 'Freeness' several times but can't seem to connect with the programme which seems very unfocused. Imagine it must have a minuscule audience.

I agree. And speaking of disconnect, I've just noticed that the list of music played on the J to Z playlist is different from the actual tracks.
