    J.R. Monterose ~ The Message

    I love this track from J.R. Monterose's hard-to-find 1959 classic 'The Message'.
    It was inspired by a tough area of Albany where Monterose played in a club for 62 weeks, 4 nights a week.

    Rookster: Thanks for calling attention to one of the (unsung) greats of the tenor. I have a shelf of J.R. including some posthumous club-dates' stuff being sold out of Albany (NY) by his relatives..what-have-you.

      That is great. I don't know much about him - didn't he play on one (maybe more) Mingus album?

        PUSB - J.R. was on Mingus's great 1956 album Pithecanthropus Erectus.
