    Barney Wilen ~ 1957

Tenor saxophonist Barney Wilen was not quite 20 when he recorded his remarkable debut album 'Tilt' in Paris in January, 1957.
Here's one of the Monk tunes from the album which is now available with 6 extra tracks.Would be great to hear him on JRR sometime.

Enjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube.

Long ago/far away I requested Le Barney's splendid close miked tenor take on "Porgy". In fairness to Alyn who introduced me to the track in his Library on Wilen, I think its very hard to get hold of.

    But maybe....

Hey JR, just noticed that you wrote a review of 'Tasiman' on Amazon crediting Alyn S also! Who says no one listens to R3 under the age of 87+. And Porgy is now on Utube. So JRR can download it as an MP3, copy it to a 78 and blast it out. My dedication is to "Linda" of Pirton.

"Barney Wilen - The Rest Of Your Life"

          French film 2004. 54 minutes.

Fascinating profile of a guy who lived life pretty much on his own terms right up to the end. Including telling Van Gelder to get Fkd.

          BN.

Worth an hour of anyone's time ...and its on Youtube.

Bluesnik ~ I'd forgotten about my Amazon review of Wilen's 'Talisman' - a wonderful album.
If Alyn can't find this in the BBC record library he's welcome to borrow my copy to play your request for 'Porgy'.

I have also copied the complete album from Utube. "Voleur!" - Barney. Great late night stuff.
