Calum: Yes, I've been listening to CH for some time now - especially if John Ellis' tenor featured.

Here's the group from Telleride Jazz Festival - less than a month ago (29")

Charlie Hunter is one of those musicians whose lack of appreciation in the UK is something I find staggering. I love this kind of music and it is a shame that Hunter's albums seem so hard to come by over here. (Check out Amazon if you don't believe me.) There was a free clip on All about Jazz that came from his latest "Public Domain" record which sounded a little disappointing but, by and large, what I have heard by him, I like. Several years ago, he toured with Bobby Previte to great effect.

The interview with Jez Nelson was very insightful. HAve to agree about the comments regarding "shreading" and , I'm afraid, McLaughlin is probably the worse culprit. Too much like Rock for my taste, although I was staggered to learn that Hunter studied with Joe Satriani who is even more guilty than McLaughlin of this kind of playing efen if I recognise that he is held in high esteem by Rock guitarists. The choice of tracks selected by Hunter were also revealing. "Blind Blake" is someone I've been checking out on Youtube and it is fascinating to hear a muso's take on just how accomplished he was. Love the clip of Charlie Hunter, by the way. Whilst it might not be too fashionable, I very much appreciate it when jazz musicians get down and play the blues like that.
