Yes many thanks, Alyn.
I could almost feel seismic ripples emanating from the Solent region - Ian must've been attending to that Boyd Raeburn track
Er, if I am to hear Stan Getz playing Stardust unaccompanied, I really don't want him sounding like Branford Marsalis...
Anyway, anyone else got that Gary Burton Throb album in their collection?

I feel a bit ambivalent about the Raeburn track. It is really well performed and extremely adventurous whilst having elements within it that make it sound a bit more of a dance band than a jazz group. Raeburn's band performed some more bop orientated tracks which you can hear on Youtube. I preferred these to be honest.
The Raeburn band is really cultish. I first heard the band perform "March of the boyds" when someone requested it on a big band radio show I listened to on local radio back in the 1980's. Even back then the band had the impression of being a well kept secret that only the initiated were aware of. It always seemed to be labelled as a Kenton-esque outfit which is unfair. I think this track is exceptional. I love Dodo Marmorosa's piano playing on it and this is more in the modern Jazz vein that the track requested on JRR.

Ian I can only play tracks that people request. Actually there's context for this week's track (Dalvatore Sally) if you check out the jazz library (still downloadable) on Raeburn. Why not ask for alternative tracks on JRR, rather than sticking them on here where the readership is, perhaos, a little smaller than the radio audience...?
