No, not obvious! But once done, the number of topics makes one realise how many musics there are, all of which are of primary interest to someone. Why should Jazz be given prominence over any of the others, Calum?

The same has happened to other musics, and within all the other artform webgages in Guardian Culture, and everywhere else on their site, as a consequence of the recent overall Guardian web redesign. Calum is complaining specifically about Jazz because it's his personal priority, but in fact exactly the same has happened to very many other Topics. I assume that his extrapolated claim of "dumping" was some sort of attempted joke because the Jazz content is completely unaffected by the web redesign.

Because the music page no longer has a navigation bar at the top of the page, it is hard for readers to find a dedicated jazz page. We kept one for classical music to see how it would fare in terms of readers visiting it, but I am afraid jazz as a genre did not attract enough readers to justify that experiment.
Best wishes,

The surprising thing is that the Guardian does have a button on the primary list for classical music. Hard to see why anyone would consult the newspaper for much in the way of classical coverage. So that should also decline in attraction and can then appear behind Ed Sheeran and Taylor Swift before being dropped. New Guardian Express?
Use a bit of sense, do, HGIt isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

The Cd review in the Daily Express on Friday's is pretty brief but it does tend to cover a wide range of pop music, avoiding the more disposable chart rubbish. They have had the odd jazz CD too and jazz is frequently chosen when celebrities / politicians / actors, etc are asked to name their favourite records in a regular feature.
The Sunday Telgraph had an excellent arts / TV listings / journo magazine called "7" which was dropped about 6 weeks ago. They still review jazz on Saturdays although I don't tend to get this paper then. I think a lot of papers are going this route - you are better off checking the web for proper reviews of jazz recordings. Anything mainstream is likely to avoid jazz completely these days.
