... Thelonious you are famous ...

JLU is a treat with live recordings of Alan Broadbent [long a favourite pianist of this jazbo in his Quartet West incarnations inter alia]; a short set from dee Dee Bridgewater and some yummy cd releases .... er pass the mince pies and brandy ...

Geoffrey has a playlist! and jolly fine it is too! The Count Basie Orchestar of the Kansas City and following years ... more brandy hold the pies nurse ....

Jon3 features a reformed Loose Tubes playing new works and old favourites ...is there any Brandy in that bottle ....

    and on the next day

I'm afraid I've had to switch Ms Bridgewater off - nausea indiced by a sensation akin to being bounced up and down on a trampoline!

Thanks is due to Calum for keeping his self-inflicted duties as notifier going for another year.

Claire Martin can broadcast some very ordinary stuff from time to time - whether it is her choice or her producer, I wonder. There was some great stuff performed by Dee Dee at Scotts, I don't know what possessed Claire to play that very ordinary stuff from the Barbican - the audience sounded more musical!
Null point for JLU this week.
      But counterbalanced by Basie.

and i found the Broadbent session rather dull, all the long melancholy just like his Mucker Charlie Haden ...

and Geoffrey has a playlist because it is a repeat from 2012 [most welcome though]

I caught some of that Dee Dee Bridgewater and hurled myself at the off-knob off my Grundig Berlina 1965 hi fi. I know its Christmas (no staff) but did anyone listen to that disaster pre broadcast?

If it was Dee Dee live from the Bridgewater Working Mens Club c.1978 it would have made more sense. Before the dancing parrot act with "local exotic dancer Cynthia D' Large".

          Back to zer tapez.

          BN.

Today is Keith Tippett day in lower tapeland. Very Mingus at times. Nick Evans being very noisy...or nosey. Charles Fox doing the intros. R3 was so much more refined in those days.

              BN.

BTW, I do find Mike Westbrook's output harder to take after each tape box. Some of the early instrumental stuff is fine but it gets more and more "Kate" through the years. And Phil Minty being "deep". Not my post Christmas fare in any sense. Still I can over record the entire stack with rare US soul....Oh, Eat yer heart out Katey.

I thought that Dee Dee B. set was shite...though I quite enjoyed the Alan Broadbent set. Perhaps he misses being back in NZ...then again, perhaps not. But the music represented a certain longing for which I was grateful.

<thanks> Calum, I do have a slightly sub-Proustian connection to my old childhood stomping ground in Hounslow even though I would never for a moment voluntarily return as a resident....

Those early memories fuck with your mind, innit.

Happy 2015 to you and everyone else, though my greetings are nearly 24 hours premature. My old mum and dad from Aberdeen wouldn't have any new year greetings on Hogmanay until after midnight.
