Jez Nelson presents a look back at the best albums and live recordings of 2014, featuring selections from studio guests Helen Mayhew and John Fordham. Included in the playlist are highlights from several performances that have marked the biggest moments in the British jazz calendar, including the reunion of big band Loose Tubes, the 70th birthday of saxophonist Evan Parker and the Mercury Prize-nominated return of Polar Bear. Also on the billing are some of the most exciting albums to have emerged Stateside, including offerings from Steve Lehman's octet and trumpeter Ambrose Akinmusire. Anyway, thanks to Calum for holding the flag aloft, and Alyn for doing us his honours; and a Merrie Xmas to all.

Oooooh Calum! Just what I wanted for Christmas!

Bird continues to be mind-blowing, when repeated listenings would do to death lesser musicians.
