Tubby Hayes - Tubby's New Groove
Don Rendell/Ian Carr - Dusk Fire & Phase III
Jazz Couriers - Live (at the Dominion Theatre)
Chris McGregor - Brotherhood of Breath
Mike Westbrook - Release (this isn't as well regarded as some of his other output, but I've loved it ever since it's release)

and I don't know whether these count as British but I've always loved the two Clarke-Boland band albums recorded at Ronnie's.

wasn't Ron Mathewson playing in that Clarke Boland band? that would qualify via the union of bassists never mind the Deuchar Scott axis &c

Amazing! All these, and not a mention of the only (in my view) really original British jazz player, Sandy Brown!

In case anyone wonders why Sandy should be included, try this as an example of his playing (not to mention Al Fairweather):

Oh dear, I don't get much beyond the 1950s

Was brung up on Chris Barber's Jazz Band (alongside some fairly popular classical fare which has 'taken' rather better) in the 1960s and that's about as far as I've got. Do often listen to the Saturday evening R3 jazz programmes but apart from some connections with Blues and Broadway I'll stick with Barber.

I keep hitting the Escape key, but I'm still here!

Gilad Atzmon meets Bird with strings, 50 years on, Really? What was the POINT of that except a better recorded string section than Bird, cloning the concept and the solos and a few half arsed points about "AmeriKa is SO not what it promised". Like, who really knew? Still in shock.

The guy can play but that was pure self delusion.

Confession - I actually bought it. And gave it away. If you are going to rip off something truly "iconic" at least do something completely new with it.

                          Sorry to be shouty Calum!

I arrived back from Sainsburys mega shop this afternoon and some Nazi Bstrd has nicked all my hanging baskets! WTF, are UKIP on the rampage? White Van Milivan seeking Ebay Christmas funds? Help the Zeros?

Unbelievable. Need to wind down with some brandy and an Elmo Hope box set.

S_A you have not lived until you have been to the Y in Leicester and you might find the Kayal Restaurant a treat before/after the gig ...

yup after half a bottle of malt my pa started talking to the ducks ... they told him they didn't like Jackie Gleason so he only played the Bobby Hackett tracks ...

condolences on the basket hooligans El Senor
