      BBC Two:
      1964-

      "BBC Two was scheduled to
begin at 19:20 on 20 April
1964 and show an evening of
      light entertainment, starting
      with the comedy show The
      Alberts, a performance from
      Soviet comedian Arkady
      Raikin, and a production of
      Cole Porter’s Kiss Me, Kate,
      culminating with a fireworks
      display. However, at around
      18:45 a huge power failure,
      originating from a fire at
      Battersea Power Station,
      caused Television Centre,
      and indeed much of west
      London, to lose all power.

      BBC1 was able to continue
      broadcasting via its facilities
      at Alexandra Palace, but all
      attempts to show the
      scheduled programmes on
      the new channel failed."

      BN.

        .. was thinking the same...

according to wiki: His trip to London for the BBC broadcast—during which he was reunited with his British cousin, distinguished pianist Bruno Raikin—marked the first of only two times when the Soviet government permitted him to perform in the West.

the implication that Soviet CItizens were drunkards is Welsh Capitalist Propaganda and transparent lies to divert attention from capitalist gangster banditry in the South Wales Coalfield ... ahem as is well known THERE ARE NO PUBS IN THE USSR

That's as maybe but I remember drinking "native red" over proof vodka in the early 70s with the Polish comrades that was almost as thick as treacle.

Well in truth I only remember them opening the bottle...I woke up in 1992.

I really dig the backing! I find Lulu's wiggles somewhat mechanical, but she was/is a lovely lassie.
I guess it was a cover of some US Soul artist- Ray Charles and the Raylettes?

Apparently by The Isley Brothers .. see/listen here. Bear in mind Lulu was a wee tender 15 year old at the time ... her backing band were The Luvers.

But back on the jazz track ... really loved that last Coltrane album .. .in fact I like it so much I bought the album! Dig the cover art too
