    Iggy Pop plays jazz!

Iggy Pop is probably the most interesting DJ since John Peel.
He focuses on the saxophone including John Coltrane on his next programme on BBC 6 Music(Sunday 18 May, 4pm-6pm).

Just heard the last 45 minutes and it was the best music radio show I have heard for quite a while.

A great music show - Albert Ayler, John Coltrane, Dexter Gordon, Stan Getz, Charlie Parker, Luis Russell, Jelly Roll Morton, Pharoah Sanders, Archie Shepp & Red Prysock!
It knocked Radio 3's jazz programmes for six!

I have never understood, given that there is such a warm feeling on R6 towards jazz, La Belle Cerys is hip to it, from Bechet to Roland, why there is not a dedicated two or three hour slot?

            Maybe we should lobby?

            BN.

Hell, let Cerys present it! Give the Welshgirl some....

Iggy Pop goes on a two-hour expedition into saxophone-sprinkled rock, pop and jazz.

Iggy Pop's new Friday night programme on BBC 6 Music(7-9pm) is well worth a listen.
Where else would you hear tracks from Bunny Berigan, Thelonious Monk, Wes Montgomery, Bessie Smith, Elmore James, Bo Diddley, Otis Rush, Little Walter, Albert King, George 'Bongo Joe' Coleman & The Drummers of Burundi?

I thought it was almost uniformly good except for Frank Sinatra - still do not get why people find his music intreresting.
