... in the void of irrelevant convenience

no JLU = Opry + Film Crap

    Jon3 has:

German pianist Michael Wollny brings his trio to the 2014 Cheltenham Jazz Festival.

One of the most prominent jazz stars to rise from Germany in recent years, Wollny is distinctly a lyrical performer - revelling in simplicity over showy technique. Building drama through evocative themes, Wollny blends improvisation with classical inflections and brooding gothic undertones. The carefully crafted grooves of drummer Eric Schaefer and bassist Christian Weber complete the line-up for this concert at the Playhouse Theatre in Cheltenham, in the first of three programmes showcasing Jazz on 3's coverage of the festival.
but no info about the prog is up so who knows what else they might be sneaking in [often as good or better than the headline feature]

the Jon3 Blog has no entries after mid February [this year - did any one notice?]

Geoffrey does Clark Terry - yep we can all wail to the mouthpiece blues

fer fecks sake John Fordham does a better job every week in the Graun .... give him an hour a week! he is always well informed when he appears on Jon3 ..... where are all the Professors of Jazz Studies eh .... not on R3 that is for sure ... any one phoned NYC for a chat lately?

    try this instead

St Sonny says you can't think and play at the same time; R3 is proof that you can not think and not play at the same time

WHO NEEDS THE bbc WITH SUCH AMATEUR REPORTAGE AS THE ABOVE?

    BN. Dark and Loathing.

Btw...I see Janet Street Pwaaaartor offering herself up to front the BBC in the Indy. She would slot right in......

Well I seem to have sorted out my Saturday night listening:
      5- 6 JRR

6-7 1 hour Opera as much as I can take, but easily digestible

7-10 Sarah Ward spicing up Dinner Jazz - Desmond/ Mulligan the way you look tonight - Serge Chaloff What's New? - Shorter/ Blakey Albatross (any one know a good Jazz Internet station?)

      10 - 12 Hear and Now

      12 onwards GS

      Could be worse!

Yes WBGO much more authentic Jazz - Dinner Jazz getting a bit schmaltzy.
