I may be the last to know this but ALL the recorded nights from Our Man in Jazz are now floating on the net....
July 27
1 - Intro + Oleo
2 - Unknown A (first version) (see
note)
3 - Doxy - Love Walked In
July 28
1 - Dearly Beloved
2 - Doxy
3 - Solitude
4 - Oleo
5 - Saint Thomas
6 - Intro + Lover
7 - Stay as Sweet as You Are
(formerly Unknown 1) +
Alexander's Ragtime Band +
Presentation of Musicians by
Sonny Rollins
8 - Home, Sweet Home (formerly
Unknown 2)
July 29
1 - Intro + Unknown 3
2 - Oleo
3 - Toot, Toot, Tootsie, Goodbye
(formerly Unknown 4)
4 - Unknown A (second version)
These are unissued tracks from
the same sessions that produced
the album Our Man in Jazz .
Live recordings at the Village
Gate, New York City, 27 to 30 July,
1962. The material is no bootleg
but the original production tapes,
so the sound quality is excellent.
I've edited some boring long
applauses and noisy beginnings,
and connected fragments,
otherwise the original sound is
intact. Many thanks to the
friend who prefers to remain
anonymous, who passed the
original tracks.
Any indication about the
"unknowns" will be greatly
appreciated...
Sonny Rollins, tenor sax -
Don Cherry, trumpet - Bob
Cranshaw, bass - Billy Higgins,
drums.
***********
Including on You Tube...A very long St Thomas....Tres superb.
BN.
Theres also a brilliant 62 date by Monk at the Gate...released on Xanadu then pulled.
