    ... kids from the Southbank

Alyn pops up this afternoon and plays tracks listeners request

Courtesy of Alyn's post for which many thanks
Popping up again at SBC tomorrow and the music will include (in order) Woody Herman, Herbie Mann, Bill Doggett (can't imagine who asked for that), the Ray-O-Vacs, Pete Brown and Benny Carter, Billy Banks, Dick Twardzik, James Booker, Christine Tobin and Ken Colyer.
JLU is Bognored by the opera

Geoffrey features Hampton Hawes but neither he nor his production team could be arsed to put up even the crap new playlist

[odd the Jon3 playlist is up now (and JLU usually manages to get one up in advance too)]

Jon3 goes from strength to strength

Imagine an amalgam of Cecil Taylor, Matthew Shipp and Morton Feldman and you're beginning to get a picture of Kris Davis - one of the most exciting and free-thinking pianists to emerge from the New York scene in recent years. From avant notions and frantic prepared piano through to thoughtful melody and time, Davis brings together a whole range of techniques and influences under the umbrella of her own unique sound. At points her sense of urgency and propulsion can be nothing short of jaw-dropping and she is joined by New York stalwarts, bassist John Hébert and drummer Tom Rainey, for the creative journey.
    looks unmissable

i confess that i have not heard any performance as thrilling to my ears as the revelation [for me that is] of the Kris Davis Trio with John Hebert and Tom Rainey

masterful improvisation and a stunning performance, the last number knocked me off the sofa ... not been so pleasantly surprised by the sheer quality of an ensemble/artist new to me in yonks ....
