What a shame - didn't hear it but is it true that Ravel didn't like Bolero? I'm sure I read that somewhere - his views on Breakfast and SMP weren't mentioned.

Yes totally agree. I chose that portion of Breakfast to be the perfect time to go out and get the Saturday Guardian. But I still find I can tolerate Saturday and Sunday Breakfast better than the weekly production.

"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
              Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

No he seems obsessed with the place Ferret. It is either jokes about Dame Ethel or comments on the name.

I certainly haven't changed my name or married that odious man and anton needs a slapped wrist for overuse of the joke.

                So there .....

I caught the end of that on the car radio, quickly followed by your call and the off button.
I wonder if the presenters are embarassed when they announce Bolero yet again, maybe they should make a stand and refuse to play it.

Hi ER, hope the prog still gets a look in!

I see you've been keeping the British neglected composers thread going (if my memory is correct, it was your idea in the first place).

I love Bolero! But even Ravel had a problem with it. I think he described it as his masterpiece that contains no music!

I rather liked Roderick Spode, but then I am distantly ( very ) related to Oswald Mosley. After all he ( Spode) did usually get his come uppance from Bertie!

I think that's the quote I heard/read BO - checking around this morning Ravel heard a woman comment after listening to Bo that " Ravel must be mad"! He is reported to have said that she was the only member of the audience who understood it!
