Ian Skelly presents Breakfast this weekend although the playlists are the usual ‘safe’ selection. I don’t believe this is IS’s own choice, as his selection of music to fill in the gap after the evening live concert is usually very interesting.

I see what you mean - CFM2, BCs by the load, and why do they, after many of us have spent a lifetime, happily knowing Schubert's Unfinished as No8, has it now become No7. As they're only playing movt 2, perhaps they should bill it as the unstarted!

        It's because of the recession.

So does the Trout become the Tiddler?

I heard his voice with relief this morning, as I had remembered Clemency B-H saying two weeks ago that she would be back in a fortnight. So I wonder if Ian is a late substitution - in which case the rep today might have had her hand in it...?

Do you think the presenter has the choice of rep?

Doversoul (n1293) apparently thinks so. Rob Cowan, on the old boards, answered a question about this, saying it was a joint effort of producers and presenter. My post hazarded the guess that it was CBH rather than IS who' had a hand in today's selection.

Does look like her populist BC style.

But did anyone hear Ian Skelly - after playing Holst's Jupiter once more - admit that he had only come across Beni Mora for the first time two months ago on Essential Classics?

How can a professional in the field of broadcasting classical music have never heard that piece before?

                          Worrying isn't it?

Why don't they play other movements from The Planets? For argument's sake, Mercury, Uranus or Saturn are all far better pieces than the clunky "Jupiter" but rarely get an outing as a BC.

I'd be interested to know how IS segued into Beni Mora when he played Jupiter. What did he say? "I only recently encountered "Beni Mora" which is a lovely, rarely played piece; but instead of playing that, here's Jupiter for anyone who isn't yet sick to death of it."

I can understand their desire to avoid the 'U' word.

It can be carefully pronounced politely.
