I'm listening to Ian Skelly presenting Breakfast as I write, and he's very good, rather than just reading the news: more power to his elbow! Regarding to the news, I think we could have a lot less of it on Radio Three, if I want to hear of death and destruction I can always turn on the Today programme on Radio Four.

Probably more correct than you get in the Lottery!

Schubert Impromptu on brekkie. I think this one annoys me 'cos I tried to learn it once but never got up to speed
ironic comment from Ian Skelly at the end, to the effect Schubert wrote over 1200 works but died at the age of 31. How many of those 1200 do we get to hear.

I know that feeling about not getting up to speed with a piece of music. I started on Mozart K457and K475,
sonata and something [?} I cringe when I hear how it should be played. Ouch.

I really enjoyed Ian this morning. I didn't realize there was another strike but as my previous post confirm, I don't miss RC. I agree about reading the news. I can find out that information myself.

I feel I should respond to the quiz, as a lot of work has probably gone into it:

                  c)
                  c)
                  a)
                  a)
and, to vary the pattern as I really haven't an idea, b).

It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Of course he's good - in the pre-Breakfast days he and Penny were purveyors of proper length works. Rather ironic that the brief era of Petroc Trelawny prior to their return of something more conducive and gentler, was so short-lived, now what do we look forward to - PT at Breakfast time.

What was the average length of the pieces played
                          a) 5.25 mins
                          b) 6.34 mins
                          c) 6.90 mins

                          How many composers featured
                          a) 156
                          b) 191
                          c) 213

Who was the most played composer

                          a) J S Bach
                          b) Chopin
                          c) Mozart

How many pieces were played more than once
                          a) 2
                          b) 5
                          c) 10

Which composer was not played in July
                          a) Wagner
                          b) Bruckner
                          c) Nielsen
My answer to the final question would have to be Bruckner, on the grounds that any single piece by him would alone have extended the average duration way beyond 6.90 minutes.

Not quite S-A, quite a number of short choral pieces by Bruckner have turned up this year, which account for over half the Bruckner played.

I would have thought the motets were ideal Breakfast fare.

They are and have occurred several times this year though not so much in the 3 months.
