An understatement if ever there was one. A good article though. Which Michael White is this? Can anyone advise please?

I think I read earlier that some people feel that there is a big difference between the daytime and weekend Breakfast programmes. I don't think I agree with that much. While Martin Handley is a pleasant broadcaster, he sounds quite old-style Radio 2 to me. He was talking this morning about kites. Actually I found it quite interesting and it led in well to the next piece - Tchaikovsky if I recall correctly - but it wasn't, say, any more formal than Monday to Friday. He also mentioned the phone in enthusiastically.

Highly respected classical music critic (not the political commentator of the same name). As I said elsewhere, this is the biggest press break from the R3 line I can remember.

I do like the phrase 'the life of the mind'.

According to the by-line on his Telegraph blog page "Michael White was voted Britain’s least boring music critic by listeners of Classic FM."

Does any member of this site wish to hold their hand up to being Mr White? For me the good points that he makes are marred by the regurgitation of some tripe.

p.s. As for Radio 3 championing civility; there could be no more needy audience .

PS - Can someone please post something in the "Playlist programmes" section to remove this post from the top. It makes me distinctly uncomfortable every time I see it.

Footnote: The point was that the new cross-fertilizing BBC is subtle or would it be insidious? I don't really have a problem with a bit of nonsense on Radio 1 - there always was although somehow the tone it used to strike was different. One perhaps of inviting others to gently send it up rather than encouraging the sending up of everyone else. Generally, there wasn't any "amusing" couldn't-care-less vandalism in it unlike here - an aspect of the almost biblical indoctrination in the culture now.

The clip though is particularly dark because it reveals the thinking of the puppet masters. Get the kids on Radio 1 laughing at "The Archers". This will then get them intrigued in the idea of "The Archers". Then adjust "The Archers" so it appeals at every opportunity to the gormless. And then do the same to all of R4. There is a close read-across here to what is happening on R3.
