I thought that as a Friend of Radio 3, I ought to enter into the The Eternal Breakfast Debate in a New Place, although my partner and I have very different opinions about the Breakfast 'Show'. Charlie prefers 'Through the Night', so when Petroc, or Sara, or somebody else at the weekend introduces themselves, I turn down the volume. On weekdays, we breakfast early, so by half past six in the morning, breakfast is long over, and there is much else to do. Radio 3 obviously wants listeners, there is no point to R3 without listeners, but how is it going to get them?

The reported tweets which seem to be more employed by certain of the Breakfast presenters - Clemency Burton Hill amongst them - reached a new low today with her apparent recommendation of a tweet from one buffoon who had just listened to one of the movements from Gorecki's Symphony of Sorrowful Songs.
"A perfect accompaniment to the sunshine and bacon rolls" she merrily reported.
On An Overgrown Path (a website I thoroughly recommend) makes this pithy comment about such social media as Twitter (quoting a Zen master):
Think three times before speaking and then choose to speak only in one out of ten of those instances.
Would that the burbling and babbling twitterati - and the lovers thereof on R3 - heeded this advice.O Wort, du Wort, das mir Fehlt!

CB-H also announced a DOUBLE WHAMMY of piano pieces and a FANTASTIC upcoming concert. I wonder if her Dad was listening, and if so what he made of it all.

He had clearly chosen 'The Scourging of the Pillar' episode but had been encouraged to choose a less "gloomy" movement. (And on a Sunday, too!) Ergo, the listener's requests are now chosen by the presenters. Utterly banal.

The superlatives also proliferate in the gruesome adverts for upcoming concerts, voiced by the same woman I think as does the Masterchef voice-over (the one that sounds as if she has just eaten a large cup-cake). Singers are GLITTERING, painists are PHENOMENAL etc etc etc
If I knew how to insert a vomit smiley it would be right here:O Wort, du Wort, das mir Fehlt!
