I'm sorry I don't understand the relevance of this at all...

She was credited (I'm not sure if it was by herself or others) with developing the means of incorporating lots of air into ice 'cream' (the stuff made with anything other than cream). She was a chemist originally. I think the service should reflect all her life, not just the political side.

You have a very long memory, Flosshilde.

Has a certain well-known chorus from Messiah been mentioned on this thread?

Yes, it's just last week that I can't remember

Some people might well like it to be, but I wonder if what might be even better is for the participating musicians all to strike on the day as a reminder of what MT inherited on assuming prime ministerial office and how she dealt with it - and that a performance of Ligeti's Poème Symphonique be put on in place of whatever had previously been decided, since in one way this might be seen as symbolic of what she's done to the country...

                  Just caught this:

08.45: Conservative MP Gyles Brandreth has told BBC Radio 4's Today programme that he expects Jim Davidson to attend Lady Thatcher's funeral as the former prime minister was a "great fan"...

Perhaps she can be excused on the grounds that, just as as she famously did not understand the literary allusions fed to her by her speechwriters, so she probably did not understand this person's racist/sexist/homophobic jokes.

I would like that as well.

My post made no mention whatsoever of MT's political achievements and legacy.

I can't beleive that anyone would like Jim Davidson, never mind have him as a favourite. Surely this is a joke?

How quaint of the Torygraph to have us believe that Gyles Brandreth is still a Conservative MP. Not for a very long time has the be-jumpered Minister for Self-Promotion graced Parliament as the MP for Chester

                            Fully agree about Davidson, jean

She had form in this area Beefy, witness the regular appearance of Sir J Savile at Chequers at Christmas

No one appears yet to have speculated on whether or not Stephen Fry will be there.

But, as has been pointed out, this thread is supposed to be about music at MT's funeral service - which is perhaps why I've not mentioned a certain Requiem by someone who shares one of his names with George Lloyd...
