I suppose it might be because she was the first woman PM - not really a very good reason, but somehow I don't think it's that.

I haven't read all of this thread, so apologies if anyone has brought this up already.

    .
I think one like Mozart"s would be most appropriate

Maybe Billy Bragg would like to play a few tunes at it ?

Apart from fishing, sheep farming, "eco-friendly" tourism, and Simon, I can't honestly see much that's worth defending in the Falklands, pop ca 2000.

(Mind, it doesn't say anything about oil)

Eh? We were at war with them in 1953, and looking at their history since your suggestion is most unlikely. GG you are out of your depth, you don't know history and you don't know war.

If you read again what I said, being outside an exclusion zone does not guarantee the aggressor any 'protection'. Being inside an exclusion zone the aggressor has a certainty of attack, it's a deterrent. Outside the zone you may or may not be attacked.

I know the Belgrano was moving west when it was hit, but in war you can be attacked when retreating.

I've merged the two threads since the wrangling is being carried out on both.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Surely you can see the difference?
Chavez was a public figure. Some people loved him, some people hated him. Not many people were indifferent. Thatcher was a public figure. Some people loved her, some people hated her. Not many people were indifferent. I'd agree it would doubtless have been better if there had been a single thread titled Margaret Thatcher dies or something like that (there now is. 'RIP Baroness Margaret Thatcher'). But you'd still have complained about people showing lack of respect.

There are plenty of reasons to question Thatcher's record. Some people will defend her redistribution of income from the poor to the rich; the appalling brutalities inflicted on individuals and communities by the police under Thatcher's orders in the 1982 Miners' strike. Some people will defend the hypocrisy of her repeated invocations of freedom while she at the same time enthusiastically endorsed Pinochet and Suharto. Etc.

I can make my mind up about you. You're the kind of loudmouthed self-regarding showoff whose infestation of the internet sometimes makes me wish I didn't have a computer and a telephone line.

MrGG, your repeat prescription is ready:

                            “1 lb. beefsteak, with
                            1 pt. bitter beer
                            every 6 hours.
                            1 ten-mile walk every morning.
1 bed at 11 sharp every night.
And don’t stuff up your head with things you don’t understand.”

                            Best wishes
