Perhaps he can use his phone call to make a request on Monday morning's Breakfast, which one assumes he will not be presenting.

That damned Nabucco 'Prisoners' Chorus' will probably be played anyway for the nth time whether he requests it or not...
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
        Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

I hope that this report has brought a smile to the face of Tom Sharpe whose two early novels about apartheid South Africa "Riotous Assembly" and "Indecent Exposure" are two of the funniest that I know in the English language.

I find myself in the very unusual position of agreeing with Flosshilde.

            Why exactly is this funny?
Patriotism is supporting your country all the time, and your government when it deserves it.

Clearly, it isn't funny. Individuals may not be fans of the man, but who would wish this on him?

Sorry if I appear to have no sense of humour, but the alleged atrocities of this part of the world make one's blood curdle. In this instance, it will probably come to nothing, but...

I actually quite like Petroc and Raffery and they do the job they're given and get people talking. I haven't seen the news clip - where is it and when did it happen please?

I didn't say I liked phone-ins and the way the programmes are going though

                      I agree.

                      So why did he go?

I agree Lats - and I repeat - if everyone knows that it's a dodgy country to visit, why did he go and why did he have no relevant paperwork?

Later: Nice posting Lats - I was just going to check FCO site

According to BBCNews, accessed from my BBC weather page, Petroc has relatives out there and offered his services, freely, for a music festival. Perhaps he thought if he wasn't paid a permit wasn't necessary ?
