Of course they can. And whether you know such musicians or not, and/or whether they are "independent" or not, has no relevance to the point I made.
    Do you know any musicians?

Yes, as will be clear if you read my earlier posts. Do you?

Well I am one - and a well-hardened cynical pro at that. It sounds to me like the volume of your opinions is not matched by much knowledge al all. That's just from reading your posts. Perhaps you're an expert really.

          Simon,

Over the last couple of days you have run the risk of rapidly making yourself look a pompous ass. You throw down these challenges to people all over the board, be they about political, musical or administrative matters. Often you seem unaware that some of these people are experts in their fields. You pooh-pooh every opinion that does not fit you narrow compass of thought and you never offer any rationale to back up your belief that the whole world is wrong and that you are right. Occasionally you trot out your threat that you work for some sinister organisation (sorry, that is impossible: sinister is left ) and that you will sort out all of us. For heaven's sake let those of us who wish to talk about matters get on without the annoying niggle that you are hovering ready to smother us in your extremist floccinaucinihilipilification. In case you are concerned about the meaning of what I am saying it is my way of telling you to get lost. Why? I recognise that you began this thread but every thread I want to go on gets turned into circular arguments about your boring paranoid obsessions.

My father warned me against that when I was fourteen, telling me if I indulged in it it could make me go blind.

I'm seriously wondering if this particular Simon is one, Simon Warr, who appears in the audience to The Wright Stuff on CH5 whenever schools are on their breaks, has very Simonesque views and a hectoring manner to match, and yesterday informed us that he teaches Latin and Classical Greek.

                Could be just a coincidence...

What a delight indeed to have opprobrium heaped upon one from so many of a certain type. If my comments irritate such people then I must be saying something right!

May I make a suggestion? Get ALL of your friends and colleagues to pop in and rail against everything that you don't agree with! Be really unpleasant to anyone who has the temerity to criticise anything to do with anything you are involved with! Shout down any views that don't fit in with the musical establishment!

After all, how DARE we ignorant lumpen proles even think about not enjoying everything that the glorious and learned "professionals" do? The very thought of it...

It won't stop me, of course - but it will make you feel better.

Such a consistent but astonishing nonetheless lack of self-knowledge

Well, perhaps I can help with your uncertainty.

If you go back in the thread and let me know which of my opinions you disagree with and believe is not matched by much knowledge, I may be able to expand. A brief statement of why you disagree would be useful, too.

                      Best wishes,

                      Simon

I have no time now to answer other posts in any depth - I hope to have the opportunity later tomorrow - but it is worth noting that the thread, started by me, was a very positive, friendly and reasonable one until GongGong appeared.

Interestingly, I was warned by another poster a while ago not to rise to GongGong's attempts to sow dissent on the Choir/CE board. I regret now that I didn't heed the warning. Not an error I plan to repeat.

                        Goodnight to all.

                        S-S!

Why is this board home to one or two moronic old farts? I thought old people always wanted respect?

Stop disrespecting the groups and people who work with them, and show some respect for the tireless delivery of top-notch music making that comes out of this country.

Where's the "disrespect", as you put it? Are you sure you understand what disrespect means?
