Thank you Anna. How have I been "got"?

I'm delighted that it was removed. At last. But I wasn't to know, was I? I made an eminently reasonable suggestion which, it is heartening to realise, ff had seen coming and - after how many months? - realised that she could not justifiably criticize me for my occasional mention of the taboo subject without taking action on the other side where it was, effectively, referred to in every post.

    Fair enough by me.

If that isn't drawing attention to the ignore thing, I don't know what is. Point taken?
Point taken, though as amateur confirms, I requested him to remove it early this morning - just after I'd emailed you.

"But I shan't want to see 'people' (unnamed) routinely copying each other's posts if they think they will annoy Simon either, since he won't be able to retaliate."
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

        For which, my appreciation.

Poor Dab. Heart bleeds, Diddums, etc., but why should Simon get preferential treatment? Others have to put up with the rough and tumble and merely scroll through posts from those they would rather not see.

Perhaps you would give me credit for having done it purely out of fairmindedness, rather than because I saw your request coming? I had no idea you were aware that it was still there ...

Now, when we are back on topic I'll place this diversion in the basement where it can be savoured at leisure by members who wish to do so.

              Fairy tales, I think.

I am happy to give you such credit, whilst nonetheless wondering why it wasn't removed ages ago.

My memory of why it was there in the first place was that you had made a public request, asking people not to quote the messages of people who were on your Ignore List, as it would then reveal their messages and therefore render your Ignore List useless.

The signature was simply a permanent reminder of your request - and since you couldn't see it anyway it didn't appear that you would be bothered. And if you could see it, I don't see quite why you would take offence given that it simply repeated your own request.

I see. And there was me thinking it was an encouragement to others to quote said poster precisely in order to render the "ignore" function useless in his case. And I wasn't alone in that view.

You may be right though, and we may have been doing Amateur an injustice. But I'd be more convinced if the wording had been different.

                    No matter really.

Back to Fairy Tales - and let's hope that we can all live happily ever after.

Now I'm off for a pint.

Edit: Time to tuck this thread up too, I think
