I am rather curious as to the reason why this person has initiated the petition. The statement feels a bit, well, not phoney but not quite genuine. I can’t sense any great effort and time spent on constructing it (e.g. compared with any of ff’s letter to the Trust etc.) Come to that, does this person really know about Radio3?

'In Tune' really great? For many of the reasons above - concern over signing up to twitter or whatever but to sign up to endorsing 'In Tune' NO!

Very familiar indeed. One could almost spot the references from this Forum. One does not need to be a listener of the station to write this. I can’t help thinking that this was written by someone who has no real interest in Radio3.

• I don’t think radio listeners talk about ‘tuning out’ or ‘at Radio3’. At least I don’t remember reading them on these boards.
• If you are serious about the matter, you wouldn’t make a sweeping comment like ‘"dumbing down" of Radio 3 to an entertainment station merely punctuated by music’. You would be more precise.
• The change in presentation style is not ‘a general change’.
• Again, a Radio3 listener would probably not use an expression like ‘parts of whole pieces of music’.
• As for ‘via listener phone-ins‘’, it sounds as if (s/he thinks) there were more than one phone-in.
• What does ‘a more catholic approach to drawing in new audiences (without alienating the others)’ actually mean?

And most of all, the bit I quoted in my previous post. It does not look as if the statement has come from someone who knows what s/he is talking about.

Unless the initiator is not a native English speaker who didn’t bother to have the statement proofread. But if I were serious enough to start a petition, I would have it proofread and make sure that the language is correct and the sentences effective. But then, why In Tune?

I don't think I agree with the last comment. When friends gets together (I think that was the situation) they talk about what they agree on. Plenty of people like In Tune (though I don't) and are totally unaware that something is, shall we say, 'controversial'. There are also plenty of people who enjoy Radio 3 on a different level from specialists.

I think the comments written here have been instructive to the initiator (whom, I have told, FoR3 as a group would not want to support with a petition in that form). She (apols - had assumed originally to be masculine!) asks whether there would be someone here ('preferably who is Twitter/Facebook-literate') who could word it in a way that would attract more general support?

My position: I would be perfectly willing to sign, as an individual, a petition which I could agree with. I wouldn't like to be involved in organising and promoting a petition of that kind because a) FoR3 works in a different way and b) I couldn't organise a thingummy in a whatsit

Jude does mention the 6 Music petition which had a huge influence (I think) in showing the BBC Trust that there should be a change of policy; so if anyone thinks a petition is a good way to proceed for listeners, I can put you in touch with Jude.

In that case, my apologies to Jude. I tend to get a bit over-sensitive about these things. Blame the weather. I wish them good luck but I shan’t sign if I need to open an account. Even the account bit is sorted out, I doubt if I’ll sign because I don’t see what sort of changes they are asking for, especially if they think In Tune is a model programme.
