Well quite. He says it's "sad" that nobody is saying they'll put up taxes to pay for better living conditions for people, I point out that actually someone is, and he says it's never going to happen. Well it isn't going to happen unless enough people decide to make it happen, that's for sure. I thought it was Jeremy Corbyn who was supposed to be the indecisive one.

Magic grandpa isn't going to make life better for those he claims to care about if he is still insitent on "respecting" the referendum
along with being keen on things like "economic growth" and so on

          Westminster voting intention:

          CON: 32% (-)
          LDEM: 23% (+4)
          LAB: 21% (-2)
          BREX: 14% (-)
          GRN: 4% (-3)

.... and with our (arguably) good/unfair (depending on viewpoint) electoral system that's not looking great (arguably!). Run off elections or other modes of voting would mean that eventually there would be a fairly definitive decision, but here we see 62% of the electorate, some of whom might vote against the Cons, fragmented into different groups, so the Cons could "walk it" if they were allowed to have an election.

I want to vote for the SDP. Are they still going??

Oh! those heady days of such optimism with the gang of four: Roy Jenkins, David Owen, Bill Rodgers and Shirley Williams (all later raised to the nobility).

All but the first of these are still with us but the party dissolved in March 1988. I expect UKIP to do the same soon...

I was only joking! I knew of the SDP fate.

With UKIP, you might be right.

I think a reformed Labour party is possible too.

A re-formation was certainly needed following the deformation under Blair and co. There again, it's always been run by the labour aristocracy from day one.

I certainly hope so, although their drubbing in the EU elections earlier this year was as much down to the Brexit Party stealing the thunder that they didn't have.

That would depend upon its members; it would also be predicated upon what I imagine to be elusive broad agreement between them as to the kind of reformed Labour Party they want...

Not true. The SDP survived until the early 90s, because David Owen’s ego refused to let it die. But when they were beaten by the MRLP at a by-election, the game was finally up.
