It isn't a total waste of time at all, it's a way of getting an idea of how people feel about this issue which hopefully will embolden those who actually can do something about it; it's the only way that anyone's voice is going to be heard at this point; it's a way of expressing solidarity with one's fellow human beings; just for starters.

It could be argued that it's a total waste of time my voting in the upcoming general election because my chosen candidate has absolutely no chance of winning in a constituency where they might as well weigh the winner's votes rather than count them (thereby saving local council tax payers money). But I'm one of those people who believe that, if you don't vote, you shouldn't complain. ANY available means of expressing disapproval of what's going on should be used IMHO.

If I had to guess how the tories are gaming this, I would think that they are looking at three scenarios .

              1. The anti no dealers help to force an early election , ( people vs parliament) which they think they can win .

2.If that somehow doesn't happen, after a bit of negotiation with the EU, Johnson re -presents the May WA dressed up to look more like a hog than a pig, and hopes that the by then freaked out soft centre ( Kinnock etc, and all the other Labour MPs in leave areas who are terrified of losing their seats ) vote for it in big enough numbers to offset the really extreme ERG ers ( 30 or so ?) who will still vote against it.

              3. Failing all that, they really do take us out with a no deal, and try to organise some sort of short term transition deal ( on the back of economic downturn both n Europe and the UK) and hope that they don't get slaughtered at the polls for the next 20 years.
I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.

I was born in the year of Suez. Now we have a PM enforcing democracy by abolishing it, what a shambles.

                    Wow.

Some people apparently are surprised at the role of the Queen, and finally actually want to see the monarchy abolished.

                    amazing.

She has been very badly advised . She has today probably signedvthe death warrant of the monarchy and the Union - she could have

1 sought a meeting of the full Privy Council

2 referred the question to the Judicial Committee to assess its lawfulness under Section 4 Judicial Committee Act 1833

3 granted only a short period before the Queen’s Speech most recent prorogations have been between 1-2 weeks .

She has been dragged into politics and is now facing accusations from some that she is pro Brexit and seeking to divert attention from the scandal surrounding her son . I think this is the beginning of the end.

Such an argument reminds me of what the economist Ronald Coase once said: "If you torture data enough, it will confess to anything".
But if we're going to be objective, this is a flawed argument! As the pie chart shows, 63% of the electorate did indeed not (explicitly) vote Leave, but by exactly the same yardstick 65% did not explicitly vote Remain. So on this argument the Leavers have it, as one can hardly count the 12.95m non-voters as default Remainers (or Leavers). Perhaps if they had taken more interest and voted, we would now be in a very different situation.
