    I salute them both!
I enjoy reading Letts' reviews on line and have usually found them to be entertaining and sometimes provocative but not a useful guide as to whether a production is worth seeing or not.

The term "pseudo-fascist" makes no sense to me here, since it would surely mean "having pretensions to be fascist", ie not genuinely fascist at all. To use Political Correctness capitalised, ie as a proper noun, would imply reference to a named organisation, which, as far as I know, doesn't exist.

Personally, I would not salute anyone who had "complete" contempt for political correctness, rather than having the discernment to decide which examples of political correctness are worthy of contempt and which actually represent an enlightened approach to avoiding language and behaviour which might give offence to others.

Moving past your gibberish, if you want to start the personal sarcastic remarks as per your post #16, then I'll chuck some back your way. Up to you buddy, you started it.

Like this entire thread, which was probably set up to get us where we find ourselves now.

If you really think my saying that you write rhetoric is a personal sarcastic remark, then you are even more thin-skinned than I thought, and only capable of chucking things.

Political Correctness ... even if sometimes 'correct' ... couldn't possibly be supported by those of a genuinely independent mind.

'PC' is a common abbreviation for a modern political and social attitude. Nobody refers to it as 'pc'.

Therefore you are being quite illogical but I defend to the death your right to be so, sir!

Sensible people don't refer to it at all. Nobody on this thread did so until you dragged it in.

Much better to consider, in gurnemanz's excellent formulation,

Ah, the modern 'liberal' mind ... so all-embracing, so tolerant of like-minded 'sensible' people but rightly despising those differently-minded 'repulsive' people ...

Political correctness is an Aunt Sally largely invented by bigots to excuse their own bad behaviour - Clarkson being a prime offender.

Voila. In a nutshell. Perfectly put.

You keep referring to 'bigots', my friend.

There is only one member here who opened this thread and described another perfectly normal and intelligent human being as 'ghastly'. Another described him as 'repulsive'.

It is not so much that such insulting terms strike me as being particularly remarkable or even unwelcome ... in fact it can only confirm to those who disagree that they are almost certainly right ... but the naked hypocrisy and accusations of 'bad behaviour' and 'bigotry' when those insults are challenged.

On reflection, jean is probably right, though not in the way she meant. A 'sensible' person would never have bothered contributing to this quite bizarre thread in the first place.

                                Mea Culpa, Mea Maxima Culpa!
