I'm on the point of deciding that this 'discussion' has reached the end of its natural life. I'm getting fed up with having to plead with people outside that the well-behaved, sensible supporters of FoR3 barely overlap with the [deleted] members of the Forum at all.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

And the May election thread has gone to Diversions, clearly breaking the new rules that came with the closure of the Politics and Current Affairs board.

So am I. Only the other day I thought it amazing that a thread of over 500 replies hadn't descended into the usual smart alecking ping-pong .....

May I say also what a fascinating and informative read and exchange of views particularly between ff and RB it's been about Bosnia, Serbs, Croats, etc.

I apologise if my post #541 fell into the latter category; I was myself "getting fed up with" the assertions of people who seem determined to confuse conclusions arising from personal gut reactions with facts that are not dependent on any such thing and, if my response to that fell outwith that which you would expect of said well-behaved sensible forum supporters, so be it but so also my apology.

I blame the lack of Latin - data is not the plural of anecdote though many, who should know better, seem to think it is

My brief scatological comment was similarly conditioned. Better to use the grey matter than the gut in such matters.

Not everyone agrees with you. Some people believe that facts, like anything else, are socially constructed. Facts vary over time and from culture to culture. Don't get 'fed up', just because people don't agree with you.

Point of Information: I said 'FoR3 supporters' not 'forum supporters'. The vast majority of FoR3 supporters don't post on the forum, and many won't even know that it exists. Not everyone in the world is into 'forum culture'. (But thank you for the apology).

Please, I have been petitioned to take 'draconian action'.

Way off topic...but I do know quite a few people in the music world (especially the choral world) who don't like posting on The Forum because of the 'bad manners'. Inter-personal invective surely has no place here?

Maybe there could be a special place for those unable to ignore reading things they know they won't like?

I'm rather surprised that, if there is a 'no politics' rule, the thread was allowed to go on for 500+ posts. Even if the OP intended discussion to be non-political, it was politicized already in #4.

My misplaced faith in human nature, I'm afraid. As long as discussions proceed in a civilised way, I'm willing to let them continue, but I should know that there are those who can't resist being uselessly provocative. And self-justifying, I see.My hope is that only two people will need to go.
