I wouldn't say that was always true, though it may often be.

There was huge media support for the Iraq war , yet it was very unpopular.

Actually, an awful lot of the people I meet don't trust the mainstream media to tell anything like the "truth" on a wide range of issues.

But either I only meet people in the 5% or.......

In any case, the "undiscrimating brain dead sheeple" don't choose a mass media that lies , distorts, represents the interests of the few, it is what they are given, remorselessly.

Blaming the victim doesn't really offer a way forward. Or perhaps there is no hope for the 95%, and we should let the 5% get on with it?

As an afterthought, I wonder who the 5% actually are? presumably the include those who currently run the country.

Does it? Or are they the ones who desperately follow what certain papers publish, in the belief that they are connecting with the views of the majority of the population and therefore more likely to be elected?

(Or perhaps by "people who run the country" you don't mean politicians, but the media owners)

I was just really trying to figure out who is in this apparent 5 %, Floss . I sort of assumed it includes the movers and shakers in all fields !!

But maybe the youths were seeking to drive a wedge between two communities?

              Quite possible indeed.

Perhaps someone will seek to find out

Maybe indeed. There is much activity by a number of sections in our country that are attempting to do just that. In some ways, they are achieving their aim.

Yes. This sits nicely alongside how The Rt Hon Sajid Javid MP's Department for Culture, Media and Sport describes Remembrance Sunday ".......to commemorate the contribution of British and Commonwealth military and civilian servicemen and women in the two World Wars and later conflicts."

From the government policy "Marking relevant national events and ceremonies"

As a former Minister For Equalities, he might think about widening the policy from its current commonwealth only position to include non-commonwealth countries, of equal merit.

On the contrary, uniting the country on a civic basis is what Nigel seeks to do. I know that you are too much of a coward and a masochistic capitulator to face the more sinister threat that is currently going down.

The real "threat" we face is from bigots in suits who seek to normalise their offensive beliefs

More masochism. Cowardly look the other way.

Yeah, only 60 years too late, who cares about the Poles, they come here, they take our jobs etc etc.

Where does he get these idiosyncratic phrases from? Very impressive superficially but of somewhat vague connection
