I think my post #59 also answers the additional point you added after I'd replied to your original post, about the definition. Regarding its relevance to MrGG, he often points out false dichotomies, real or imagined, in others and I was turning the tables on him in a roaringly funny way.

A 'false choice' - a wrong choice? - is not a false dichotomy. A false dichotomy is to imply that there are just two choices available (for instance, allow a 'free-for-all' immigration, or stop any immigration completely).

Thinking or non-thinking. The number of choices, not whether they are right or wrong. There are other choices. For example, thinking deeply about things that require reflection, like war and needless killing; and not thinking too much, for example about things like innocuous things like the ritual of Remembrance Sunday.

I'd recommend, at this stage in your discussion, having a shufti at Pedants' Corner which has developed into a fascinating exploration of Pragmatics and Rhetoric

                    God (or whatever) forbid!

Don't understand a word of it. Why can't they speak English?

                    Or write it?

(But would they be the same?)

in the sense that it is so rapidly consumed by the householder that it wouldn't appear on an inventory

Having just talked about false dichotomies, I suspect this is a non sequitur. Just because a gang of yoofs acted in a despicable way does not mean that all young people feel the same.
