    Thanks for reminder MrGG.

Unfortunately getting to the South Bank from north of the river can be almost as difficult as getting to it from Bakewell! I had a ticket, but my travel plans were ruined because of weekend underground line closures, and recent change of parking regime in Regents Park.

At least travelling from Bakewell, there might have been an open route to Kings Cross/ Euston!

I can't believed I missed all this, despite the heads-up from MrGG - didn't see this thread until now!!! (but I attended the Stockhausen & Berio concert on Sunday night). I caught the end of some bits and pieces and it looked like an amazing couple of days' events. Sooo much going on and a wonderful vibe. Gutted

You must live well north of the river - I drove in, in 15 minutes and parked for free on Waterloo Bridge.

I know that the Helmut Lachenmann and Nuria Schoenberg Nono talk about Darmstadt has been recorded and I think they will be putting it online........ probably other things as well
So for those of us who sadly missed it there will be a chance to catch up on some but without the "vibe"

          How was Gruppen X 2 ?

Electronic Music Hub, Forbidden Planet showing on loop, Gyorgi Ligeti: A portrait, Germany Year Zero, Dr Strangelove, performances of Samuel Beckett texts, a documentary on Xenakis!!!!!!!, performances of Cage and Xenakis percussion works - all free of charge, and that's only half of Sunday's programme - I want to cry!!!

            ------------------------------------------------- X -----------------------------------------------

Gruppen was amazing. To hear and see it live, as opposed to listening through your hi-fi was fascinating and exciting - almost as if it were a different work.

I particularly enjoyed being able to 'see' chords being passed from one orchestra to the other, rather than just trying to imagine it (which doesn't work).

Over a hundred musicians arranged in a horse-shoe around the audience really does effect the physical distance of sound that KS imagined.

The percussion sections were awesome! Marked fffffffffffX10!!!???

As a 'non-musician' I figured it was extremely difficult to articulate 3 different orchestras by three different conductors, but they proved that it's actually easy

The icing on the cake was to have it performed a second time - Lord knows when the opportunity will come again!

Make your own mind up on fifty-bob for a programme booklet that contains 30% of what a budget CD booklet would contain.

Thanks to MrGG for posting the info about this event. After reading the itinerary I had to sit down. More than anything else it brought to mind the composerthon and similar themed events put on R3 nowadays - just too much to take in in one go. So I'm glad I didn't. Why can't this be spread out among schedules the way modern and contemporary music used to be, instead of presented in some sort of crammerthon, thereafter to be neglected?

                      I disagree
I think the combination of free events, films, talks and concerts is a great way of getting together with folk who are interested in the same stuff as well as putting music into a wider context
I've had wonderful conversations with Alvin Lucier, Robin Maconie and others at similar things........

The programming could have been better ... but I guess it was good as a taster weekend for newbies. Good to see Forbidden Planet soundtrack in evidence.

Who were the musical consultants... Gillian Moore/Tom Service by any chance? Just guessing - couldn't see on website.

                            Some interesting things here

"Gruppen was very accessible, nothing required to enjoy it except a pair of ears. I enjoy music (the arts in general) when they move something in me and make my skin tingle, and during this my skin was crawling. It was electrifying! "
