    Thanks ferney.

I've "taken the liberty" to mention the Radigue on the jazz bored, given that the performers are known in that world. You never know..........

I'd noticed that ... with great pleasure. (Perhaps you might have added, for those more accustomed to the presentation style of Freesome, a "Warning that listeners should be aware that this programme contains material of a Tom Service nature"? )

Funny thing is, I have never thought of Angharad Davies as a "jazz musician". An improviser par excellence, for sure, but not a jazz musician as such. Perhaps this is linked to Eddie Prevost's view that I do not like jazz (he's quite wrong about that, by the way - I'm simply more interested in free improvisation). I feel sure there are plenty of jazzers who would differ from Eddie regarding what was and was not "jazz".

Well the Radique piece is far from Jazzy. I wish I could match Kate's boundless enthusiasm for it. Appreciating that it is extremely difficult to play on acoustic instruments, I guess it's much simpler to perform with electronica. Having listened to several hours of Radique recently, I'm not sure the average listener (me) would appreciate the difference between acoustic and digital.

Pleasant enough, but no light bulb moment yet.

Perhaps they should have broadcast it after the Sawyer effort? Radique's work was positively Kunst der Fugean in comparison!

Certainly the best of a mixed bunch, and certainly superior to the Jano Doe item, which although using a synthesiser, I would place in the same category.

On the contrary, her instrumental music is so intimately based on the sounds of the instruments (and instrumentalists) she works with, it would be impossible even in principle to "perform" electronically. Nevertheless, as you suggest, the difference between her acoustic and electronic music (assuming the latter is what you mean by "digital", given that her electronic pieces involved no digital technology in their production) is highly subtle, of the same order as the changes which give each piece its structure, which can no doubt be a challenge to attune oneself to, whatever kind of listener one is (not that I believe in the existence of "the average listener").

Given how well qualified ferneyhoughgeliebte was on current contemporary musics, composers and trends, he will be a hard job to follow as well-informed announcer for forthcoming New Music Shows.

Is there anybody else around here prepared to take over? Were I more knowledgeable I would do the job myself, but, given I am not, I would however be prepared to do the pre-announcements in similar manner to the way I do for forthcoming jazz broadcasts - namely by reproducing word-for-word the Radio Times text for each episode - but without the addition of my "little asides". It would just be the formal programme title with date for header, with given details below.

What (if anything) do people feel?

I usually read the threads, even if I haven’t listened, and there is a small but loyal band of enthusiasts.
I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.

                        Seconded.

A blank sheet of paper may be all that is needed. Of course, an intriguing title would be much appreciated!

Robert Worby and Lawrence Crane were both in the audience of tonight's City University Performance mentioned in the "What are you listening to now" thread. chatting with the in the pub, afterwards, Robert mentioned his interview with Ferneyhough and his plans to imterview Sir Harry for the NMS. He also had some fine anecdotes and dream recollections re Stockhausen. Both he and Lawrencebshare my enthusiasm for Live Batts!!
