    Tom's Going to Iceland; H&N, Sat 16/3/19; 10:00pm

Coinciding with the last two episodes of BBC4's Trapped, Tom Service introduces seven new works by Icelandic composers.

The BBCSO, conducted by Rumon Gamba, perform four orchestral works:

    Haukur Tómasson(b1960): From Darkness Woven
Páll Ragnar Pálsson(b1977): Quake (with Sæunn Þorsteinsdóttir, solo 'cello)
    Valgeir Sigurðsson(b1971): Eighteen Hundred & Seventy-Five
    Anna Þorvaldsdóttir(b1977): Dreaming

... then 'cellist Sæunn Þorsteinsdóttir also performs two works for solo 'cello:

Þuríður Jónsdóttir(b1967): 48 Images of the Moon
    Halldór Smárason(b1989): 3 movements from ☉

... and "movements from" Bára Gísladóttir(b1989)'s Mass for some for Double Bass, Voice, & electronics (all performed by the composer).

Þorvaldsdóttir has featured comparatively frequently on R3 over the past couple of years (her Music was even heard on Record Review a couple of weeks ago), and Gísladóttir has had at least one work H&Ned over the past twelve months - I'm hopeful that this programme will offer some really good stuff.

‘Mass For Some’ is the new album by composer and a double bass player Bára Gísladóttir. It’s a strange avant-garde...
