Ensemble UPROAR: New Music from Wales; H&N, Sat, 23/2/19; 10:00pm
And ... why not programme these pieces on Breakfast or Essential Classics? Short enough not to disrupt the regular listeners to those programmes, pleasant ("enthusiastic"/"joyful") enough not to upset them - and perhaps allowing new listeners an entry point for more substantial works?
Good idea - Petroc Trelawney is getting slightly more adventurous these days, at least in the first part of the programme, before around 8am.
Spacialisation of multi-channel electroacoustic works is always welcome, but rarely does the music's discourse really depend upon it to make sense. There is probably a stronger argument for clearer spacialisation of orchestral/ensemble broadcasts given there are often more sounds sources involved and musical threads playing out.
I attended a HISS concert at City University Performance Space on Turesday. I found it a struggle to stay awake, and the sound projection was decdedly front oriented, speakers sites all round notwithstanding. I bet I have no such problems on (all hail) the 1st of May.
