    An Assembly with Ensemble x.y; H&N, Sat, 9/6/18; 10:00pm

Robert Worby presents music by Cassandra Miller, Bryn Harrison and Michael Finnissy.

Robert Worby introduces a recording of a concert given jointly by experimental ensembles An Assembly, and Ensemble x.y at St John's Waterloo in London on 27th April.

Anthony Leung: "Concert Piece #1" from Three Concert Pieces
    Paul Newland(b1966): Locus
    Bryn Harrison(b1969): Six Symmetries
    Cassandra Miller(b1976): Philip The Wanderer
    Michael Finnissy(b1946): Piano Concerto no.2

Jack Sheen directs, with Joseph Havlat the pianist in the Finnissy.

Finnissy needs no introduction, of course, and the Second Piano Concerto (completed in the year Miller was born) is something of a "classic" - it's even been done at the Proms!

Enjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube.

Bryn Harrison and Cassandra Miller are both consistently beguiling composers - the former's Vessels has taken a special significance for me: a regular "go-to" work for calming those sleepless 3:00am terrors:

another timbre is a new label for improvised and contemporary music

... and it'll be good to hear recent stuff by Newman and Leung.

That's really good to know. I managed to miss the concert itself, so am particularly glad that a recording of it is to be broadcast.

Actually I will have to catch it later, on the iPlayer. Tonight I will be at "The Space of Spirit", a celebration by Vocal Constructivists of the work of Pauline Oliveros'.

Enjoy! I don't remember there being an outside area there; my last visit was 4-5 years ago.
