New Music at the Proms 2018

Tim Rutherford-Johnson has thoughtfully provided an "at a glance" round-up of "New" Music featured in this year's Proms, for those who do not relish the BBC labyrinth:

The BBC Proms listings came out this morning. As usual, I’ve been tweeting the new music highlights, and collected them all below for your reference. No time for much commentary today, I&#821…

Needless to say, perhaps, I am bitterly disappointed that a certain 75th birthday this year doesn't receive a glance. The wuck-fits!!! In fact, it's mostly the same-old same-new. As TR-J puts it. I feel there’s even less sense of ambition, new music-wise.

Although I'd add the Dapne Oram Prom 13 to his JACK 4tet recommendation.

You have failed to understand that Mark Turnage's 58th birthday is a much more important musical landmark.

You can hear the G.F. Haas Alpine horn Concerto Grosso here: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=tOHi0foN3zU

The Concerto Grosso No. 2 is also on YouTube, for fans of spectral music: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=_KHuAzKzuTU

        Indeed I have.

Sometimes I'm quite proud of my failings.

Judging by the copy of Gramophone I received today there is a 75th birthday tribute CD from NMC.

I attended a performance of Haas - Concerto Grosso No. 1 (for alphorns and orchestra) at Berlin a few years ago. It drew on me and in the end I found it haunting.

Yes - the one from the Total Immersion concerts from a few years back. A few of us here bought it as soon as it came out last month:

Perhaps Tim Rutherford-Johnson didn't fail to understand it; I quite like his entry "Mark-Anthony Turnage – Farewell"...
