    Electro-Phonic Art Trio @ L'Klektik

A bit late in the day me publicising this, given that it starts in less than an hour. But if anyone's loitering around the centre of Town this afternoon, with time on their hands, there's nowhere more welcoming to go than the L'Klektik hideout, located just down from Waterloo station, for interesting listening experiences.

Lawrence Casserley has been known to operate in groups which have included our own Richard Barrett, I believe.

An amazingly noise proofed small venue, given how close it is the multi-rail-lined viaduct leading into Waterloo Station. Wish I'd had prior knowledge of this event. I've been to many fine 'gigs' there. Shame about the piano though, the decrepit old one from Cafe OTO. Perhaps someone could start a crowd fund to buy a Bösendorfer 290 Imperial to replace it.

I feel bad about having forgotten this particular gig was on yesterday, having overviewed the month's gigs at the beginning of July and plotted them onto my calendar - especially in view of the fact that Trevor Watts and Eddie Prevost appear there tomorrow night - where else would one get to see them today for £8, or £6 for old grumpies such as myself? The place is threatening to become S London's answer to Cafe Oto. Well, it would have a hard job, but I'm not complaining.

I could have done without the opening duo Far Rainbow's hour-long, at times nerve-jangling repetitiveness - kind of abstract Ambient accompanying projected footage interspersing rippling waves with night time images of motorway traffic - but Casserley's trio needed only listening eye commentary and were magnificent, operating live transformation feedbacks to improvised inputs of the highest order, as is his wont, with that wonderful sense of space one would expect from these guys, with a CD due out in a few months' time which I shall definitely be keeping a lookout for. Bryn rightly remarks on the quietness of the location, this can be ascribed to the fact that the tracks emerging on the side of the terminus nearest to the venue have mostly been unused since the Chunnel express was transferred to Kings X, although all this will change when major reconstruction work starts up shortly within Waterloo Station which will necessitate reopening them for the time being, at any rate. It is hoped to make more use of them in the not too distant future, but, having noted, from being around Crystal Palace Lower level, a pretty busy station, that elevated lines seem not to disperse too much noise on surrounding neighbourhoods unless horns are hooted - trains are moving at snail's pace after all - I am in hope that performances at L'Klectik will continue to be largely unaffected.

I'll probably see you there then. Poor Veryan, having to do what he can with that dire piano. Trevor and Eddie played there last year, with Guillaume Viltard on bass. ISTR Eddie saying that was the first time he and Trevor had played together in public.
