    Soundcloud RIP?

Soundcloud has been invaluably useful over the past eight years in hearing the work of emerging composers and artists - I've frequently linked to it when introducing the work of composers featured in Hear & Now and other programmes. Now it seems that the company responsible is in severe financial trouble, sacking many of its staff - and its days may be numbered. Does anyone know if there is any better news than those featured in these articles?

It seems that Soundcloud is about to disappear: the sound-sharing website has only a few weeks, possibly months, of money left in the coffers and, if current reports are to be believed, once that h…

The news featured in those articles just might be no more than an echo of the kind of scary rumour that does the rounds every now and again about some site or software or other. I've been seeing these stories about Soundcloud for a couple of weeks now. I don't know how true they are. I'm not inclined to mourn it until it does really fall off the twig, and in that eventuality I've had an account for some time at Bandcamp which I was going to transfer all my Soundcloud stuff to eventually anyway, mainly because the format is much more attractive, and less clumsy if you have a lot of material. I expect many of my friends and colleagues will be doing the same thing. It isn't the first time something like this has happened - everyone used to have a Myspace page for their work.

      I'm in a similar situation
I have loads of stuff on Soundcloud and did pay for a "pro" account
but over to Bandcamp I think with the added bonus of getting the accaisonal £0.99p from folks paying to download

Bandcamp honestly does seem like the better site—the main reason to use Soundcloud is I guess because everyone else is using it (and obviously if it goes down, the music of a lot of composers will be inaccessible simply because they haven't been active lately and thus won't be around to transfer their stuff to a new platform). Still, it'll definitely be a loss if it does disappear. We'll see I guess.

          Hi,
Would you be willing to tell me what name I'd have to search for to listen to your music, please?

Mr GongGong, I sent you a couple of private messages but you can't get them or any others from anyone because your message storage space is full to the brim, apparently

            Best wishes,
            Neil
